An American counterpart to the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research
The
is a world-famous research institute in Davos. It is known to the general public primarily through its avalanche bulletin. In addition, a whole host of other topics are researched in the areas of snow, natural hazards, permafrost, etc.
Research on similar topics is being carried out in the Sierra Nevada in the Californian mountains.

Further heavy snowfalls

By Wednesday evening, another 50 cm is expected. This snowfall will continue to be accompanied by stormy winds. After a temporary high pressure system on Thursday and Friday, heavy rainfall could return next weekend.
