The Israeli startup Wasteless’s approach is more data-driven: it assigns each product its own smart label, displaying prices in real time, optimized according to their expiration dates using machine learning . Wasteless claims to stem a third of the waste in the supermarkets where it operates, while increasing their profits.

As the saying goes, “What gets measured gets better managed.” Yet, restaurants collect very little data on the food they throw away and why. As a result, they have no idea how to reduce waste. Winnow Solutions ‘ products aim to solve this problem by allowing kitchens to track what they throw away.
