A little dust
On Wednesday, some Saharan dust reached Central Europe with the southwesterly flow. The dust concentration was quite low (graphic on the left) and only a little dust remained on the ground (graphic on the right). The little Saharan dust was mostly washed out with the precipitation during the night. Behind the disturbance, some Saharan dust again reached the Alps during the course of Thursday with the continuing southwesterly flow.

A little sun
During the day the air mass from the west temporarily dried
out. The flow was slightly anticyclonic at altitude. Accordingly, there was a weak intermediate high pressure influence, the clouds cleared and the sun shone in the north and the Alps at times, and at least a little in the south. A little convection
The sun is now higher in the sky again during the day. Accordingly, the sun’s alb directory rays are becoming increasingly stronger and are able to warm the air better again over the course of the day. This was particularly visible today over the Jura and the foothills of the Alps. In the slightly unstable air mass, the sun’s rays triggered high-reaching convection, particularly over the mountains. This manifested itself in the form of large cumulus clouds, and there were isolated showers and even thunderstorms across the border over France: a picture and weather pattern that is actually more reminiscent of the summer months.
